Comprehensive Eye Exam
Your doctor will examine the health and function of your eyes, test for common eye diseases, and assess your visual acuity. If you wear eye glasses with corrective lenses, your prescription will be checked as well.
Contact Lens Exam
Your eye doctor will perform all the elements of a comprehensive eye exam, but will also fit you for contact lenses. This involves assessing how the contact lens sits on the eye for a healthy and comfortable fit. The doctor will also give you a contact lens prescription.
Diabetic Eye Exam
Diabetics are encouraged to get eye exams every year to monitor for signs of retinopathy in the back of the eye that can lead to permanent vision loss. If you do not have vision insurance, your medical insurance will cover a health check for diabetes.
Eye Disease Management
Some diseases, like diabetic retinopathy or glaucoma, require more frequent follow-up care. These visits focus solely on disease management. These visits are typically billed to your medical insurance instead of vision insurance.
Eye Emergencies
Your symptoms will be triaged on the phone to determine if they warrant a same-day appointment. Emergencies include eye pain, foreign body in the eye, sudden loss of vision, conjunctivitis (pink eye) symptoms, and flashes of light in vision, etc.

Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy is an eye disease caused by diabetes that can lead to vision loss. Your eye doctor will monitor your condition, refer you to a retinal specialist if necessary, and coordinate with your primary care doctor to ensure comprehensive care.
Cataracts
Cataracts develop when the eye’s lens clouds due to natural protein buildup over time, affecting vision clarity. Your eye doctor will diagnose and monitor your cataracts, referring you to a cataract surgeon when surgery is needed and providing comprehensive post-op care.
Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration affects part of the retina, causing loss of central vision. Dr. Tavel will monitor your condition closely, especially for the progression of wet macular degeneration. If necessary, you’ll be referred to a retinal specialist for additional treatments, such as injections if needed.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is an eye disease that damages the optic nerve due to increased fluid pressure, and often shows no early symptoms. Your eye doctor will diagnose and manage your glaucoma by monitoring eye pressure, prescribing special eye drops, or referring you to a specialist if further treatment is needed.
Eye Injuries and Infection
Our doctors are ready to deliver effective same-day care for urgent eye injuries and infection. Eye emergencies such as pain, foreign bodies, sudden vision loss, pink eye symptoms, and flashes of light are triaged by phone with your doctor to determine the urgency of the eye issue.

I love Dr. Tavel Family Eye Care. I’m not one to usually leave reviews but I felt like I needed to this time. The practice has been my eye doctor for over a year. The entire office is courteous, caring, and professional. My first experience led me to the retina specialist after the doctor recommended it. I ended up needing retina surgery. Thank goodness for their thorough care! Without the recommendation I could ha e possibly lost my vision due to detachment. My most recent experience was beyond expectations. I have astigmatism in both eyes. It’s not terrible but it is enough to give me severe ocular migraines if my prescription is off. I went in on October 13 knowing I would need new glasses because I began having daily headaches/distortion/halos a month prior. My prescription did get worse. The optician I saw also had migraines and suggested tinted lenses (Transistions Xtraactive). She said they were a life changer. So I decided to order per her recommendation. Then the bomb was dropped. Their factory was behind. Glasses wouldn’t be received until November 3. Well, that was not the best news as my last pair from them took close to 2 weeks and my headaches we’re just getting worse. The optician said she would email them to let them know of my circumstances with headaches. In my experience people say alot of things but never follow through. On Saturday October 20 I got a call. GLASSES READY!!! 1 week after I ordered!! She did exactly what she said she would. Here I am with no headache/distortion because of the care of Dr. Tavel Family Eye Care. The tinted lenses are amazing and cost far less than specialized migraine lenses. I highly recommend going to them for your eye needs. They are caring, professional, timely, etc. Just like anything else, be sure to express your concerns. They will take care of those concerns. They really know their stuff!
