Free Retinal Imaging

With a high-resolution 200° image of the retina captured in a single shot, our FREE Optos retinal scan elevates a standard eye exam by providing our doctors an opportunity to quickly diagnose and treat many eye conditions that may have otherwise gone undetected.

Meet the Optomap

Optomap Retinal Imaging is a revolutionary tool that allows our doctors to view most of the retina with a 200° high-resolution image in a single shot. The wider view vs the normal 45° view with dilation makes early diagnosis and treatments easier.

The process takes only a few minutes to complete, and the image is immediately available to review, allowing both the patient and the doctor to view the eye together.

Comfortable
& Painless

The Optomap takes less than a second to capture, and a comfortable and painless way to get insight into your ocular health. Unless you have specific retinal disease symptoms or other factors , you can avoid the uncomfortable side effects of dilation.

Eye Health
Insights

One benefit of the Optomap is the ability to see the images and review them with your doctor. Plus, this technology allows your doctor to track your eye health over time, comparing images for any changes to your eyes. An Optomap is an invaluable tool with which your eye doctor can educate you about your eye health.

Diseases
Identified

Many eye diseases develop without symptoms and are commonly first discovered through a comprehensive eye exam. Early diagnosis for a lot of eye diseases is crucial to prevent vision loss. The Optomap technology helps our doctors detect underlying eye diseases and monitor treatment for existing ocular diseases.

If detected early, the following diseases effects can be treated or minimized, reducing the severity of vision loss.

AMD

Glaucoma

Diabetic Retinopathy

Hypertension

Melanoma

Retinal Detachment

Why We Provide
Retinal Imaging
Free of Charge

Many eye care offices charge a fee for this service since it is not covered by insurance plans, but we offer this imaging free of charge to ensure each patient is receiving the highest quality of eye care!

We believe that the Optomap is important for everyone to receive because no other tool can capture this wide range view in a single image. This allows our doctors to track subtle changes in their patient’s vision and diagnose diseases early and is a valuable non-invasive option we can offer to patients to enhance their eye exam experience.

Since the introduction of the Optomap, millions of exams have been conducted worldwide, assisting in the early diagnosis of serious eye conditions – such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments and macular degeneration that would have otherwise gone undetected.

Retinal imaging uses advanced technology to capture detailed, high-resolution images of the retina without needing pupil dilation, providing a permanent record of the eye’s condition. Eye dilation, on the other hand, involves using eye drops to widen the pupils, allowing a direct visual examination of the retina and other internal structures but can temporarily blur vision and cause light sensitivity. Both techniques are used to detect and monitor eye conditions, with retinal imaging offering a clear digital record and dilation providing a broader view of the eye’s internal health.

Retinal imaging does not hurt at all. This non-invasive retinal scan allows your eye doctor to evaluate your eyes without dilation.

The scanning process with the Optos only takes a few seconds per eye to complete and will be immediately ready to review with your doctor during your exam.

Your retina plays a vital role in vision, and any damage to your retina can lead to vision loss or permanent blindness. Many vision problems can be corrected, but they must be caught early. Annual eye exams with us will keep your eye health on track.

An Optomap retinal image is not typically covered by insurance, which is why Dr. Tavel includes it in your exam for free.
