Are your eyes hooked on your iPhone, Blackberry or other electronic device?

According to USA Today, U.S. workers spend more than 858 million hours a day using a digital device. With all these hours can come symptoms of headaches, eye strain, blurry vision and difficulty focusing.

But there is relief in sight. Dr. Tavel, your Indiana eye care doctor, has several easy steps to avoid these symptoms.

As I sit here and write this blog, I have to remind myself of the 20/20/20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This gives my eyes a break when I’m using my computer for an extended period of time.

Don’t forget to blink! When using a digital device you tend to blink less which causes dry eyes.

If your office is like mine, fluorescent lights tower over your workspace. If you’re lucky enough to have a window to the outdoors, you probably get direct sunlight in your office. Both of these types of light can reflect off your digital device and into your eyes. Manipulating the lighting or changing the angle of your device can minimize the impact of the light.

So whether you are working with desktop, lap top or handheld computers or cell phones, talk to Dr. Tavel, your Indianapolis eye doctor, about the appropriate visual solution for you. Dr. Tavel or one of his board certified optometrists will have the right solution to fit your needs and give your eyes the relief they deserve!
