In 1940, after serving as a captain in the Air Force during WWII, Dr. David Tavel began his optical career by opening the first Dr. Tavel office in the Claypool Hotel in Downtown Indianapolis. His business philosophy was to provide excellent vision care while offering stylish, affordable eyewear at convenient locations for all Hoosiers.

Today, Dr. Tavel remains a 100% doctor-owned and operated business with 24 locations across Indiana. Sons of founder Dr. David Tavel and second-generation owners Dr. Larry Tavel and Dr. Alan Tavel, along with Dr. Larry Tavel’s daughter, Mollie Tavel, carry on the family legacy with the same dedication and passion, leading their company and helping Hoosiers see better statewide.
Each Dr. Tavel office is led by a team of highly skilled doctors supported by knowledgeable optical professionals and offers a range of eye health services to help patients correct and protect their vision and manage their overall health.
