See and Be Seen In Your Eyewear

How well you see is important. But second to that is how you’re seen by others.

Your eyes are one of the first features people see: make sure they’re framed well!

According to a recent study published in Eye Care Business, the style of your eyeglasses influences how others perceive you. Professor Helmut Leder led a group of researchers at the Psychology Department of the University of Vienna, Austria in a study on the impact of eyewear on the appearance and perception of faces. The study tested four areas of perception.

The first step tested personal attributes. The test subjects evaluated a series of photos of men and women of various ages without eyewear, with rimless eyewear and with full rim glasses. The words used to describe faces with rimless eyewear were successful, intelligent and trustworthy. Overall, those with rimless eyewear were perceived as more attractive.

The second portion of the study focused on the distinction between faces. The results indicate that faces with rimless glasses were similar to faces without eyewear. Full rim glasses highlight the eye with strong contrast while rimless eyewear has a more subtle approach.

The subjects were then tested on face recognition. Faces with rimless eyewear were less memorable then those with full rim glasses. This is because rimless eyewear doesn’t alter the natural beauty of the face. In this case, less is more.

The final part focused on the importance of the eye zone, especially for social interaction. Full rim glasses seemed to attract more attention, while rimless eyewear emphasized the eye area more naturally.

When searching for a pair of rimless glasses, you may opt for a high style frame like the square rimless style worn by politician Sarah Palin on the cover of her latest book. Or perhaps you prefer the semi-rimless style of actress Jennifer Garner and entrepreneur Bill Gates.

It all comes down to style and comfort. Whether you take a bold step with full rim glasses, or opt for a subtle approach with rimless frames, you can find a style to fit you. Check out Dr. Tavel’s Barely There Eyewear® at your nearest office today and see and be seen in your eye wear!
